ZRT Menopause Home Test

Patient Information:

FSH: Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is produced by the pituitary gland and is responsible for the development of mature eggs during a women’s menstrual cycle. When women reach peri-menopause they begin to run out of viable eggs in the ovaries. The brain sensing a low estrogen environment, increases FSH levels to stimulate the ovaries to produce a viable egg. During menopause, when ovarian production of eggs declines significantly the ovaries no longer respond to FSH signal. This drives FSH levels up and keeps them up, in the effort to stimulate egg production. FSH levels remain high for the rest of the woman’s life.

LH: Luteinizing hormone (LH) is also produced by the pituitary gland. LH rises a day or two before ovulation, triggering ovulation, and then falls dramatically as the corpus luteum starts to produce progesterone. When a women’s ovaries no longer respond to the FSH & LH signals, the hormone signaling system can go awry. LH concentrations rise markedly between ages 35-40, dramatically increasing until 2-3 years after menopause.
