Health Care Professional Information:

What is the specific information we can provide?

1.      You may experience dizziness while collecting your blood sample.  It is recommended to collect the sample while sitting down.

2.      The card that contains the blood sample should only be one person’s blood on it.

3.      During blood sample collection, be careful not to expose others to your blood sample.

4.      The test is not recommended for hemophiliacs, those taking medicines that thin blood (anticoagulants), and those under the age of 20.

5.      Cholesterol levels may change if you have a recent illness, pregnancy, or use of birth control pills.

6.      The use of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on the finger that will be pricked can interfere with the results of this test.

7.      If you have taken 500 mg or more of vitamin C or a standard dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol), the test should not be done within a four-hour period of ingestion because it could cause a falsely low result.
