Hepatitis C Testing

What is the specific information we can provide?

1.                  You may experience dizziness while collecting your blood sample.  It is recommended to collect the sample while sitting down.

2.                  The card that contains the blood sample should only be one person’s blood on it.

3.                  During blood sample collection, be careful not to expose others to your blood sample.

4.                  If diagnosed with Hepatitis C, patient should not be drinking alcohol. 

Are there any contraindications, warnings, and precautions we should be aware of?

There are no known contraindications for use of the Home AccessÒ HCV CheckÔ.

Is there an age limit on the person purchasing or using the test?

The test is not intended for use on children.  Persons under the age of 18 of using the Home AccessÒ HCV CheckÔ have not been investigated.

What is the laboratory test methods Home Access Health Corporation use to find out the results?

There are two types of devices used to test for the presence of antibodies to HCV.  These are enzyme immunoassays (EIA) and a recombinant immunoblot supplemental assay (RIBA).  These assays are licensed only to test serum and/or plasma specimens. 

Understanding the Result Interpretations:

There are four possible outcomes for the Home AccessÒ HCV CheckÔ:

Negative

Hepatitis C virus antibodies were not found (uninfected)

Positive

Hepatitis C virus antibodies were found (infected)**

Indeterminate

Hepatitis C virus antibodies could not be confirmed

Should be re-tested and/or consult a physician

Result Not Available

Blood sample could not be tested because the sample card was either soiled, wet, or did not contain enough blood to test from.

**Patient is infected with HCV & is capable of passing the disease on to others.  Patient should seek a medical physician immediately for appropriate drug treatment.

 

NOTE:  The results of the Home AccessÒ HCV CheckÔ test should be discussed with a health care professional, such as a pharmacist or a physician in interpreting the results and managing the symptoms.  Contraception should not be discontinued unless directed otherwise by the physician.
