There is no hassle in going to the doctor or to the clinic. The test allows the patient to take control of their health and well being into their own hands. The results are accurate and reliable because it is comparable to the tests used by doctors and hospitals. The sample does not have to be sent to a lab for analysis. In addition, there is no prescription required to purchase this test. Why is screening for colorectal cancer important? According to the Cancer Research Foundation of America, as many as 30-40% of the population >50 years has pre-cancerous adenomatous polyps. Most cases of colorectal cancer begin as non-cancerous polyps that grow on the wall of the colon or rectum. If these polyps are not detected early and treated, it may become cancerous over time. What is the EZ Detect™ Fecal Occult Blood Test? EZ Detect™ is a two-minute test to detect hidden blood in the stool. A user simply drops a chemically treated biodegradable tissue into the toilet bowl after a bowel movement. A blue-green color will appear on the tissue within two minutes if blood is detected. The test is repeated for three consecutive bowel movements, with results recorded on a Test Results Card provided with the EZ Detect™ Kit. The person then mails the card to his/her physician or screening center for professional evaluation. The test detects small quantities (2.0mg hemoglobin/100 ml water) of occult (hidden) blood in the stool. How does the test work? The EZ DetectÒ Colon Cancer Screen TestÔ fecal occult blood test kit consists of a biodegradable tissue-paper-film coated with a chromogenic dye (TMB) and peroxide. The film is in the shape of a cross on the test tissue. If a person has a colorectal disorder, there will be blood present on the outside of the stool due to the irritated polyps that have formed in the colon. This blood will disperse onto the surface of the toilet water. The heme that is on hemoglobin (present in blood) oxidizes the tetramethylbenzidine that is on the test strip and causes a blue/green color change. What does the test kit contain? Each test kit is for one user. The test kit contains:
**There are enough pads to test 3 consecutive bowel movements. This test does not require a doctor’s visit. What kind of results will be produced? The EZ DetectÒ Colon Cancer Screen TestÔ produces a color result rather than a simple “yes” or “no” answer. The color change on the test area of the pad will indicate if blood is detected or not.
