SUMMARY AND PRINCIPLE OR PROCEDURE The AutoSplit Integrated Test Cup employs solid-phase immunoassay technology to discretely detect the presence of any of the 10 specified drugs in human urine. The device contains up to 10 test strips, 1 for each of the specified drugs (Click here for information about each of these drugs and their effects: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, methamphetamine, PCP, and amphetamine.) Rotating the lid to the testing position activates the plunger in the isolation chamber, which causes urine to be transferred to the chamber containing the test strips. The remaining sample is retained for use in confirmatory tests. The drug test strips work based upon competition for limited antibody binding sites between an immobilized drug-protein conjugate and the drug that may be present in the urine sample. Drugs which may be present in the urine specimen compete against their respective drug conjugate for binding sites on the specific antibody. As the urine sample migrates up the test strip, a portion of the sample forms a complex with the antibody-dye conjugate specific for that drug. The complex migrates to the "test result" region containing an immobilized drug-protein conjugate. A drug, if present in the urine specimen below its cut-off concentration, will not saturate the binding sites of its specific antibody. The antibody will then react with the drug-protein conjugate and a visible colored line will show up in the test line region of the specific drug strip. The presence of drug above the cut-off concentration will saturate all the binding site of the antibody. Therefore, the colored line will not form in the test line region if the drug concentration level in above the cut-off level. If no drug is present in the sample, the antibody-dye conjugate will attach to the immobilized drug-protein conjugate, causing a visible line to form in the "test result" region. If present in the sample, the drug will compete with the immobilized drug-protein conjugate for the limited binding sites on the antibody-dye conjugate. When a sufficient amount of the drug is present, it saturates the antibodies, and the antibody-dye conjugate cannot bind to the drug conjugate in the "test result" region. No visible line will form, indicating that the drug concentration is approximately equal to or above the cutoff level shown in the above chart.
